Our Modern Dance Programs

Beginner Modern for Minis

This class is an introduction to modern dance for ages 4-7. No previous dance training is required. The class will consist of a warmup with center technique, and exercises across the floor. This class will explore the use of space, musicality, and floor work.  Dancers will begin developing body awareness and control and are encouraged to have fun and use critical thinking skills. Class is 50 minutes.

Modern Dance Level 2

This class is an introduction to modern dance for ages 8-12. No previous dance training is required. The class will consist of a warmup with safe stretching, center technique and exercises across the floor. Dancers will begin developing modern dance vocabulary. The class will focus on developing a strong technical foundation along with building confidence, flexibility, movement quality, musicality, and strength. It is suggested that the student pairs Modern 2 with a placed ballet level.  Class is 60 minutes.

Modern Dance Level 3

This class will continue to build upon the material learned in modern levels one and two and is open to ages 9-14. Dancers need previous experience in modern or ballet classes. This class will consist of a longer warmup with safe stretching, center technique work, exercises across the floor and short combinations. Dancers will continue developing their modern dance vocabulary and begin exploring different styles of modern dance. This class is designed to continue in creating a strong technical foundation while enhancing balance, coordination, flexibility, and turn out. This class will begin to develop the young artist’s sense of artistry with introductory improvisational exercises. Dancers are encouraged to also take classes in ballet or jazz in addition to modern.

Modern Dance Level 4

This class will continue developing upon the material learned in modern level 3 and is open to ages 14-18.  Dancers must have at least 2 years prior training in modern dance and approval from the instructor to participate in this class to prevent injury. The class will consist of a longer warmup with safe stretching, center technique work, exercises across the floor, and combinations. The class will continue developing improvisation skills along with developing dancer’s choreographic skills. Dancers are expected to think anatomically and critically about movement and are also expected to present a strong technical foundation. The emphasis is placed on artistry and performance quality, while finding ways to execute movement through different dynamics, qualities, and speed. Three classes weekly and taking classes in both ballet and jazz in addition to modern is strongly encouraged.

Modern Dance Dress Code:

Female dress code- Leotard or unitard. Leggings, bike shorts, or black convertible, footless, or stirrup tights, bare feet, Long hair in a ponytail, bun, or braid.   Short hair pulled back/clipped away from the face.

Male dress code- Fitted t-shirt or tank top, leotard, or unitard. Jazz pants, leggings, or bike shorts.

Our Aerial Dance Programs

Aerial Dance Level 1

This class is an introduction to aerial dance. Students will learn beginner, foundational moves, and how to weave them together into sequences. This class will help build strength, flexibility, musicality, and technique. No previous aerial training required. Class age requirement is 9 and up.

Dress Code: Leotard and Leggings

Aerial Dance Level 2

This class builds on the material learned in Level 1, providing students with a wider vocabulary and understanding of aerial dance. Students will build on skills learned in Level 1 and begin to learn movement transitions. Dancers will also learn how to put aerial choreography to music, while continuing to build strength, flexibility, musicality, and technique. Must be able to invert and have taken aerial dance level 1 at least six months. Age group 10 and up.

Dress Code: Leotard and Leggings

Aerial Dance Level 3

Aerial dance level 3 builds on the material learned in Level 2, providing students with a stronger vocabulary and understanding of aerial dance. Dancers will continue to work on putting aerial choreography to music, smooth transitions, and more difficult choreography. Dancers will continue to build strength, flexibility, musicality, and technique. Must be working on inverting in the air and have taken aerial dance level 2 for a year. Age group 12 and up.

Our Jazz Programs

Beginner Jazz Level 1

This class is an introduction to jazz dance for ages 4-7. No previous dance training is required. The class will consist of a warmup and center technique work and continue into exercises across the floor. This class will focus on beginner, fundamental technique and principles of jazz and movement. Dancers will begin developing body awareness and control and understanding use of rhythm and expression. Class is 50 minutes.

Beginner Jazz Level 2

This class will continue developing upon the information learned in jazz level 1 for ages 7-9. No previous dance training is required. The class will consist of a warmup and safe stretching, center technique and travelling exercises across the floor. Dancers will begin working on developing their jazz dance vocabulary. The class will focus on developing strength and control with an emphasis on body alignment. Dancers will continue to learn about the use of rhythm and expression.  Class is 60 minutes.

Intermediate Jazz Level 3

This class will continue to build upon the material learned in jazz levels one and two and is open to ages 9-14. Dancers should have previous experience with jazz or ballet classes levels 2 or 3. The class will include a longer warm-up with safe stretching, center technique work, exercises across the floor and short combinations. This class will focus on continued development of dance vocabulary along with an introduction to jazz dance history. The class will emphasize the development and proper use of dancer’s strength and flexibility, along with memorization and musicality. Dancers will begin learning complex rhythms and pathways. Dancers are encouraged to also take classes in ballet or modern in addition to jazz.  Class is 60 minutes.

Advanced Jazz Level 4

This 90 minute class will continue developing upon the material learned in previous jazz levels and is open to ages 14-18. Dancers will need experience in Jazz level 3 and approval from the instructor to participate in this class in order to prevent injury. Classes include a warmup with safe stretching, center technique work, exercises across the floor, intricate combinations, and choreographic work. This class will continue developing the dancer’s jazz dance vocabulary and jazz dance history knowledge. The class will emphasize attention to detail and technical execution. Dancers will have the opportunity to explore both classic and contemporary jazz dance styles and practice expression through the choreography with an emphasis on advanced technique. Three classes weekly and taking classes in both ballet and modern in addition to jazz is required.

Jazz Dance Dress Code:

Female: leotard, leggings or tights, jazz shoes or bare feet, hair pulled back / clipped away from face

Male: fitted top, fitted pants or shorts, jazz shoes or bare feet, hair pulled back / clipped away from face

Our Hip Hop Programs

Hip Hop Dance

This class is an introduction to Hip Hop dance for ages 5-8. No previous dance training is required. The class will consist of a warmup and center technique, along with across the floor exercises and short combinations. Dancers will begin developing body awareness and control, coordination, and rhythm. This class will introduce dancers to a variety of hip hop styles along with a brief introduction to the history of hip hop. Class is 60 minutes.

Dress code- form fitting top and pants, clean tennis shoes, hair pulled back / clipped away from face.
